ODDBALL ROLL CALL: 1992 SCORE P&G FRED McGRIFF

McGRIFF WAS A BIG STAR OF THE '90s.

SCORE COULD DESIGN SOME GREAT BACKS.

WHY I LIKE IT

  • Lots of color, even though the background is quite busy and comes close to eating Fred McGriff, The Crime Dog. The All-Star Game logo is nice, too. Overall, Score did a great job with its baseball sets and is missed.

WHAT'S THE STORY?

  • This 18-card set featured players from the '92 All-Star Game in San Diego and was available late in the '92 season.

HOW I ACQUIRED IT

  • The set was available by mailing UPC symbols from three Proctor & Gamble products and a coupon that was in the newspaper
  • I stayed busy obtaining a lot of these kinds of sets back then. The fact it had McGriff, a Tampa guy from Jefferson High School, and Cal Ripken Jr. (5/18) made it extremely enticing.
